AIA Middle East Events Calendar
AIA Middle East plans to organize a series of events including project tours, lectures by regional and international architects and professionals in the construction industry, film series, and panel discussions of relevant issues. These events will create a forum for the exchange of ideas and networking among industry professionals. For AIA members, these events will be recognized by AIA for continued education points.
Signature Events
Annual General Meeting – January (2012)
The Annual General Meeting of the Middle East chapter includes the election of the board and officers, reports on the preceding year and plans for the year to come. There are plenty of opportunities to socialize over wine and nibbles with colleagues, members and friends.
Student Design Charrette – (March 2012)
This is a popular one-day event in which participants design collaboratively in teams of around 4 to 6 students, mentored by a seasoned practicing architect. The design challenge is a brief based on a UAE site. At the end of the day, an eminent jury will review the work and award prizes.
Excellence in Design Awards – April (2012)
This will be an evening gala with food and drinks, presentation of the awards and some live musical accompaniment. The jury will be comprised of eminent practitioners, academics and critics who meet to review the entries in person.
Fall Safari – September (2011)
We mark the beginning of Fall with a desert Safari. Come join us for an exciting afternoon of dune bashing and sand boarding followed by an evening enlivened by exquisite food, local crafts and belly dancing!
City Explorer Conference – (November 2011 / February 2012)
This event will be held within the UAE combines lectures, walking and building tours. The 2011 Excursion will be held in Dubai and attendees will be able to visit historical and modern sites. The follow up 2012 tour will be in Abu Dhabi.
