Monday 23 : AIA ME and Community Cinema

AIA ME and Community Cinema collabortate to screen more architecture documentaries. The screening will be of two episodes from an ARTE TV series. Each documentary is 30 min each. Screening will be followed by open discussion with the audience. These are must see documentaries.   The House of Jean Prouvé - was a home for the Prouvé family designed in 1953. It embodies the architect's most innovative ideas.  The Stone Thermal Baths - by Peter Zumthor redefines the very concept of the public bath. A staging of water in all its diverse forms. Note - Prouvé and Zumthor were both born in April. 17-22 April: SalonSatellite Furniture Design Exhibition, Milan, Italy

AIA Middle East are excited to announce that the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah has been selected to participate in the prestigious SaloneSatellite furniture design exhibition to be held in Milan, Italy from April 17 to 22, 2012.

As the first Middle Eastern university participating in SaloneSatellite, AUS are proud to be sharing the creative voice, and the creative energy, of the Middle East in such a significant global venue. Eight students and recent alumni will be showcasing their work, with some of the furniture being highly influenced by specific traditions, practices, and context of the region.

After a very competitive selection process, CAAD was selected to join approximately 700 young designers and 18 international design schools for this year’s SaloneSatellite. This selection reflects the academic vision and institutional goals of the College of Architecture, Art and Design at AUS that supports a culture of design excellence, opportunism, entrepreneurship, and leadership in both the creative culture and the creative economy. Design faculty and students at CAAD have a history of making in applied and aesthetic contexts that contribute significantly to the regional and international material culture, professional workplace, and creative economy.

The furniture fair and design week in Milan is the most important annual design event globally, and the selection process for SaloneSatellite is extremely competitive. We look forward to see you in Milan.
